Silence at the Front

"Just before the storm there will be a calm atmosphere". I hope it will be a reality. During wars, silence at the front, means "nothing is spectacular is going on". Let bring that term to now, the present, "No happenings"!

Guess everyone are doing something and hope you are still here. Understand that, compare to me, I have my notebook almost at all time in office, during discussions, meetings and in bed! It has become my best past time activity. Now even during my commuting on the ERL I have just started a blog, using my mobile phone.

Check it out, click here On the Move

Last week I managed to SMS apart from Pelly, Dyg Hajijah. Like Pelly she is also connected with sport. Pelly with archery and Dayang with golf. Maybe not as main player but sponsor or team manager level.

The F1 is back for its 10th year!

Today, tomorrow, my town which is bordering Sepang will be again like always, bustling with F1 fans from all over the world. Big bikes, motorcars and crazy jams on the roads towards the Sepang Circuit will be the normal sights, For locals we have already knew how to avoid those jams. Stay Home! Better to see them on TV. Sometime I can hear the roar of the engines in the distance and if the wind is right. But anyway, today will be the qualifying rounds and tomorrow will be the actual race day..just sit tight and hope BMW Sauber wins!

TTOM 4: Mike Lo Foh Kheng

Hello my friends,

Easter will be a busy time for my family with lots of contruction activity in the house. We bought a new place recently with a view of the Rockies and we are in the process of finishing the lower level so that See Chou can have his private suite when he visits me very soon.

Connie - everytime I read your wonderful emails, you make me feel hungry. I think I will drive 12 hours to Vancouver this coming July just to taste some good Malaysian food there.

Ah Kheng

TTOM 3: Connie

Hello all my dear classmates

It is great to see this email going. The weather is lovely now, still cold but after winter I won't complain. Yes, still missing the food, I will make up for it when I visit Malaysia. What fun!!!

Lily, I guess you will be in Miri and maybe get to see Yeu Teck and Joe. Oil palm and tea plantation reminds me of visit to the green tea plantation/factory few hours outside Shanghai. I can never remember the Chinese name but the translation is so sweet 'where Heaven is on Earth' and on the boat ride on West Lake, it felt so apt. Been drinking green tea, yes I am trying to keep young, too. Yes, my 'anak2' all getting older, grandchildren??? Lately, the thought is quite sweet. I won't be rushed to wash the dishes when reading bedtime fairy tales. You know what I mean. Maybe I will be a dotting grandma!! I want to enjoy my life, too - heeheehee, visiting all of you and makan together.

Foh Kheng, since you mentioned Nasi Lemak, I have been thinking of nasi lemak, have to make my own version, shortcuts. Bye for now.

Connie x

Angkasawan Dr. Faiz and Lydia..

Lydia on CLEO?

Just spoken with Pelly...

She is in Miri, now her children have grown-up, here and there, flying all over. Her eldest the daughter, is an engineer in Australia, 2nd, the son, in Singapore and 3rd , can't remember though maybe with her in Miri. Pelly's voice...well you know..have you heard DAP Lim Kit Siang at his campaign run..almost like him..the Dark Vedar sound..hahaha..but anyway glad to have talk to her, if you need the number just sms me.

James Wong

When Johari mentioned S.W.A.L.K , I thought of kiew heng somehow!!! I remembered him better with that name rather than James.....The chicken suppliers for the whole of Miri then!!! Remembered ordering some chickens for the festive season.Hey, with the kind of headstart, he should have been a millionnaire by now!!! Everyone almost eat chickens everyday and the population is growing at 1.9% and by now there are 27 Million people in Malaysia .......Ha..ha....
He was the romantic one in the class ,tagging with wei Ming everywhere almost ????
Now after medical/dental school I understand the works of hormones at puberty!!! Ha..ha...
Remembered the graveyard across the school backgate. Read some names on the graves stones....Its somewhere between Gymcana club and the school I think!
What about the Machinda club, is it still there? Remembered the chicken chops and all the nice dishes served there.Of course, our weekly run for house points....at the field!!!

Hey everyone...Please wake up!!!

Dental connections

Am rather sad that:
1.Khir Toyo is no longer MB Selangor.(One dentist down).Otherwise there is somewhere to put our grouse too.
2.Datu Seri Jamaluddin Jarjis.....?? His wife was my senior...We were at MOSTI family day last year and was treated very well....Am gonna miss that as well
3.Rafidah ....Our Iron lady .Strong support ..BUT was dropped off the list...Rather unfair!!! She responded to my sisters letter while she was just 14yrs.Invited her to her house and maintain the friendship till today.....Another sad move for me.She was after all the brains behind the ASN,ASB .....She is among those who worked hard and not play the fool when on on negotiation trips international...(according to friends from INTAN .Perhaps she is pro mahathir!! ..despite rift!!!!
4. This is the first time the tradition is broken when the MCA chief is not appointed Minister of Health.... The other day I met Datuk Ong Kah Ting at the putrajaya canteen.told him that fruits should be made cheap and easily available. ..The actions was as quick as a fox...The next day jambu price dropped from RM8/kg to RM 5/Kg.Today there is ample fruits in the canteen.

5.Not enough lady minister!!! With more than 3:1 ratio of female to male in the universities, surely we could make do with the ladies brain for the country!!!

6.Glad that Mohd Yaccob is still finance minister. He is a genious and the one behind the recovery during the economic downturn!!!

Hey everyone !!!! Say something!!! your voice is important!!! My regards to all.

Knock! Knock! Oh..still sleeping!!!

Enough! The signal got through loud and clear here after GE12. Nepotism is OUT! Family in power appointing family members is also NOT accepted unless you thought you win when in fact you lost if not got 3 rounds of counts in Reembauu..(spelling mistake for a purpose). But for my homestate..is there no one elses kah to be the AM of Cuti-Cuti Dept? We have others who have been and serve the rakyaat for many terms.. so terang sangatlah .. If none, appoint caliber people from the state who have serve the party well over the years to become senator..there you got the AM you can be proud of. I can imagine what are in the minds of other team's mate!! GERAM....tapi, say nothing, do nothing, you will be save...guaranted by Cari Makan Saja...

Election results!!!

Dear all,
The election results clearly indicated a need for change in our mindset and the way we do things from now on!!!Although a government could be formed, the representations at the parliment would be interesting.None of the members of parliment could afford to miss the session or sleep during the sessions....he...he..After being elected to office ,the worst would be to just sleep ....and be viewed nationwide...!!!
Ha...ha...I wonder why is it that none of our class go into politics? We definitely got a good mix of talents BUT why not politics??? Perhaps Lily should try and stand vs Dr.Geoge Chan??
Saw the photos you all took at some of the gatherings..Was jealous that I was not in the pictures...!!!
You all look good....and your wives too.Good choice!!!Lily look really glamourous these days !!! Bravo to all our friends!!!.
Keep the mail coming everyone. Regards.Wishing everyone Blue skies and everything nice.
P/S Still remember the coca cola show with patrich teoh??

SCSS 1976's performance so far..

Hi, everyone, the above is the stats taken as of this afternoon at 4pm. Not good to look at but "ok" for a start because only some did contribute a line or two to get some other members attention. Well it does not matter, the stats, some might find it interesting to share stories and others might just want to laugh and smile along. All the same we are almost at some "junctions" in our life. We just need top have friends. We may want to listen to friends of the yester years. The stats cannot show that. Lydia, James, Stephen well surely there are things that you can write about!!! James..what about the fighting during our marble games? Hahahaha!

Talk talk over mail 1 (TTOM 1) : Lily

Dear Lydia,
Is that youngest girl of yours whom I met last time or long time ago when she was still drink mama's milk?

These are David, Soon Siek , Soon Kan and Soon Cheng's kids. They all have 3 kids each. Have Teck given any mail? I will be in Miri on the 20th to 23rd March. I am very sure that I will meet Teck and will ask him why no reply. Do you come to Kuching? If so, please do contact me. Fraulein knows my no. We only talk on the phone as she is so busy with her work and travelling too.

See Chou,
I am not sure about you but i think keeping young is very important to enjoy life.

Connie,
I do keep myself very busy. But i am enjoying it. I might be slow to reply mail but will reply one day. ....like now. I just got back from the oil palm and tea estates in Serian. I took 40 of my staff to visit the tea estate (Mayang Tea) . Now with the high oil palm prices, we are expected to travel to the estate more to assist the planters in the field to ensure that all the fruits are harvested and evacuated to the processing mills.

Looking at all the pictures, I wonder besides Johari, who else will be a grand pa or grand ma soon?????? hehehehe

Regards

Lily

The school symbol..

Hi everyone,
Now they they made from printed or sewed on clothes. Cheaper maybe, but sure will not leave any hole marks on you shirt! Those days we have metal badges and some of us became more creative by sandpapered the metal bagde so that it look all metallics without the colours. Who have any of them now? I cannot remember now where I left my treasure box after all these years. it looks different with the white background. The dove have grown fatter! So still the metal badge is much better.

Classic reentry of the past..

James, you really have crystallised "those days" and that come to my mind back teachers like Tan Chong Beng, Alan Ku, Idris Matani (my uncle, by marriage and deceased) and the school clerk then George Chong and my favorite school dentist , Miss Kaur. Our credits to all of them..

Mr Tan Chong Beng, remember him well becuase he rode on his bicycle to school, white shirt black pants and soft-spoken. Mr Alan Ku, (when I think about it now) was a more business oriented teacher. He maybe at that time, being the headmaster, was thinking of looking for more funds for some school's projects so, he organised Fun Fairs many times, some of us were volunteers and even a dancing party! We volunteered as waiters!!!Hahaha..it was fun. The late Idris Matani, never thought then, would be my uncle because he married my aunty, I remembered him well because he was our Geo teacher, he asked question like "What are the exports of Brazil?" Football and cocoa. Yes, he loved football, he was a sportman and a football referee then. And for the cocoa, I remember well he said he love milo covered with milk on bread. And make experiments out of it at home! Hmm..good but now..less on this..less on that....

Our teachers also organised "movie-going classes" haha...when good movies (non X rated, of course) like Sound of Musics, To Sir with Love and S.W.A.L.K (Sealed with a loving kiss), can you still remember we walked in line to either Miri Theather or Cathay Theather! Can't quite recall the years.

Those are the primary school story.....secondary later or some us can recall and share..

Looking back all these years...

Looking back at some of our gatherings!!!
*******************************************************
Hi Johari

Think of the tiltle on the class SCSS 1976 seems to limit to just a mere 40+ people or maybe less. Memories fade. Age is catching up and is more than 31 years ago.

The long namelist of old classmates actually links back to the very first day when we met while in Primary One. I presume some of us who joined the wagon on the way may not know some cutie names. Let's just refesh a little since the day we started to learn.. A for Apple, B for Boy, C for Cup, ...... Z for Zebra.. while 1 + 1 = 2, 1 x 1 = 1 and while we sing... tommy thumb, tommy thumb where are you, here I am, here I am, how do you do.... How I wish I can still play "goli" now ... hahaha.

Primary One started for some of us way back in 1966, housed in the small wooden hut split to Primary 1A & 1Z. The old wooden hut had long been pulled down for new classroom blocks. If one can recall, it was the woodworking workshop near to the Principal's house. Well, it's a long long story. Let me just summarise the years of our studies, and the names of the RULING teachers in those years. For those in question marks, I really forgot or was not a student in that class.

1966 Primary 1A - Form Teacher - Ms Tan ....??
Primary 1Z - Form Teacher - Ms Mary Chong?

1967 Primary 2A - Form Teacher - ????
Primary 2Z - Form Teacher - Mrs Dawood

1968 Primary 3A - Form Teacher - Mrs Tan ??
Primary 3Z - Form Teacher - Ms Chong (Chong Yen Choo ?)

1969 Primary 4A - Form Teacher - ????
Primary 4Z - Form Teacher - Mr Zainal Dawood

1970 Primary 5A - Form Teacher - ????
Primary 5Z - Form Teacher - Ms Grace Chen

*** Just can't recall, was Mr Peter Howell (now a political sectary to Sarawak CM) one of our
Form Teacher in primary school ??? ***

1971 Primary 6A - Form Teacher - ????
Primary 6Z - Form Teacher - Ms Annette Wong

1972 Form 1A - Form Teacher - Mr Loh
Form 1B - Form Teacher - Ms Joan Teoh / Mrs Hanifah????

1973 Form 2A - Form Teacher -
Form 2B - Form Teacher - Mr. Lawrence Calvert????

1974 Form 3A - Form Teacher - Mr. Philip Kueh?????
Form 3B - Form Teacher - Ms Hilda Lim ????

1975 Form 4 - Form Teacher - Ms Liew?????

1976 Form 5 - Form Teacher - Ms Regina Szetu

Some of us from the SCS Primary 6A & Z mergered in Form 1A and 1B. Lots of new strangers (faces) at that time, pretties like Rokiah, Rohaya Junaidi, Saadiah Samat, Kasuma and handsome like Kaderi Ali, (these from Anchi School??) , Yeu Teck and Chee Ming. That's where the fun begins.

Then by the end of 1974, Form 3, some drop out and newbies joined. That's why it shrinked to a mere 40+ of us by the end of 1976 ...........

Regards to all

Today at about 7.30 pm received a called from Sydney, Australia. Stephen Liew on the other side. That's is an achievement! He has mentioned Alex Lam Kong Yoke and I am trying to track him down and tell him where to "meet". Appreciate if you can pass some info on where's about our other friends are. Maybe we can track about 60% by end of 2008!

For a start kindly just tell and share me information on whom you can remember through this blog or e-mail them to me. I will placed this "Missing Persons" list on our blog so we can cross check among each other.

Oh, by the way, Lydia, Stephen asked me which one is you on the previous posting! Hahahaha!

I miss the jalan2 chari makan, thank you for the photo, Lydia.
Miss all the local makan, First year in UK, I had cravings of food, food - I dreamt of dinners and woke up just as the dishes were set on the table - what a torture! So I learnt to make chicken rice, mee goreng, fried rice and bring back the Sarawak laksa 'rempah' from Kuching.

Lydia & Jo, next time I am KL, we jalan chari makan - maybe 2009.
Miri-ians - will just have to go for a big seafood dinner.
Will be so nice to meet up again and this email chatting is great, thanks for the creating the Blog, Jo.
Lily, elections over, time to relax a little, catch on the sleep x.

Sunday, March 9, 2008

It's almost 6.15 am! I have not slept the whole day of 8 March 2008!

I am still up and eager waiting for the election results, live broadcast on TV. The wind of change have come to Malaysian politics. Just to sum up to until now with interesting facts and observations;

- BN unable to get 2/3 majority in Parliment but just a simple majority.
- The oppositions captured the State Legislative Council (DUN)of Penang, Selangor, Kedah, Perak and like always Kelantan.
- This also means the appointment of the chief ministers will be a headache if the oppositions are not ready on this collectively.
- Many parties presidents and also incumbent cabinet ministers lost their seats
- Johor, a strong hold of BN has now oppositions in their yards.
- Family politics (father and son or mother and daughter) very obvious this time around.
- Parties conventions from now on will be very heaty!
- Voices in Parliment, obviously will be louder!
- The amount of coverage through medias and campaign posters is no longer a measure to determine a win.
- The emergence of different set of voters are now here. The deafening silence is now is loud and clear.
- BN won the war but lost the battle. Nothing to be proud of if they are to match the benchmark they have created.
- Democracy in Malaysia is alive and kicking!

The people speaks! The signal has been sent, loud and clear. It is a tsunami election.

You can read more from other medias..
